Alvin Louis Kern, 83, of Findlay passed away Monday, September 12, 2022, after a 25 year struggle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Alvin was born on September 14, 1938 in Seneca County, Ohio to the late Anthony and Norine (Lucius) Kern. He married the love of his life and his high school sweetheart Mary Brady on April 29, 1961 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin and she survives in Findlay. Also surviving are his children: Deacon Mark (Carrie) Kern of Ocoee, Tennessee, Michael (Kristine) Kern of Findlay, Amy (Bill) Shepherd of Marysville, Ohio, Joseph (Kristen) Kern of Cumberland, Rhode Island and John (Stephanie) Kern of Marysville, Ohio; grandchildren: DeAnna, Joshua (Yaimarie), Andrew, Lacie, Ian(Savannah), Matthew, Kayla, Austin, Kelly, Amanda and Jonathon; great-grandchild: Lando and brothers: Carl Kern and Luke Kern both of Tiffin. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Francis Kern, Rita Kern and Mary Catherine Fox.
Alvin was a 1957 graduate of New Riegel High School. Alvin faithfully served his country in the United States Army. During this time, Alvin served a mission in the Congo attached to the U.N. forces performing emergency personnel evacuations. Alvin was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Findlay for over 60 years, where he helped renovate the Downtown Church in spite of his Parkinson. Alvin loved fishing, an activity that he found to be very peaceful. Alvin was also an avid woodworker. The most important part of Alvin’s life was his family. He cherished every moment he spent with them.
Visitation for Alvin will be on Friday, September 16, 2022 from 4:00-7:00 PM, where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:00 PM in the Hanneman Funeral Home, 201 Osborn Ave., Findlay, Ohio 45840. Alvin’s Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 10:00 AM in the St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 750 Bright Rd., Findlay, Ohio 45840. Interment will follow in the Knollcrest Cemetery, where Military honors will be rendered by the Hancock County Memorial Squad.
