Beverly Jean Lehtomaa

Beverly Lehtomaa, born July 2, 1928, in Bowling Green, peacefully passed away leaving a legacy of dedication and love. A life long resident of Bowling Green, she was a proud graduate of Bowling Green High School in 1946 and Bowling Green State University in 1950 where she was a member of the Falcon Marching Band and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. While at BGSU, Bev met and married her husband, Harland Lehtomaa who was also a fellow band member and education major. Beverly devoted her career to education, teaching English and Ohio history at Bowling Green Junior High until her retirement in 1984 from Bowling Green City Schools. Even after retiring from education, Bev continued to teach those around her about the importance of education and learning. Throughout her life, Beverly also was a volunteer at Wood County Hospital, sang in the choir at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, worked in the registration office at BGSU for nineteen years, was a member of Falcon Club, BG Woman's Club and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harland Lehtomaa, parents Gail and Edna (Pike) Herringshaw, brothers Robert, Victor, Roger Herringshaw, and granddaughter Kelsey Lehtomaa Frouge. Beverly is survived by her two sons, Kirk (Linda) and Steve (Susi) Lehtomaa, and cherished grandchildren James (Jaime), Chrissi (Nick) D'Arcangelo, and Andrew (Francesca) Lehtomaa, along with eight great-grandchildren.

Bev had a passion for travel, especially enjoying cruises with Harland, athletics, crafting, and was an avid reader. She loved supporting Bowling Green State University's athletic teams, always cheering on the Falcons with great enthusiasm. Beverly's love, dedication, and zest for life will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who knew her. The kindness, curiosity, and perseverance she shared will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of her family and community.

A memorial gathering was held at Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home on Saturday, August 16, 2025. A graveside service at Oak Grove Cemetery immediately followed.
