Carol J Carpurso

Carol J. (Custer) Carpurso of Findlay, Ohio passed following surgical complications on June 16, 2025, at Kindred Hospital in Lima, Ohio. Carol was born to Charles and Noreen (Ford) Custer of Cleveland, Ohio, on August 27, 1948.

Carol graduated from Solon High School, Class of 1966, and studied early childhood education at Tri-C East. She married her former husband, Ken Soukup of Solon, Ohio, in 1969, and together they raised three children (Ken, Shelly, and Katie). In 1985, she met James Carpurso of Pennsauken, New Jersey, and they married on August 5, 1989. Together they raised their blended family of eight for the next 35 years. Jim and Carol had restless souls and moved often, always seeking their next great adventure. This allowed them to create bonds throughout much of northeastern Ohio, South Carolina, and Florida.

Primarily a homemaker, Carol also offered in-home babysitting for family and close friends but also enjoyed working retail in her later years. Family was always her top priority, so she made sure she could be available to help at moment’s notice. While Carol loved all her children fiercely, being a grandmother was her greatest joy in life - she would move heaven and earth just to see them smile.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband and father of her first three children, her brother James Custer, and sister Gina (Custer) Palshook. She is survived by her husband and soulmate, James, her siblings Bill Custer (Lori), Rick Custer, Peg (Custer) Svasta (Mike), Jack Custer (Rhonda), Nancy (Custer) Husak, and Mick Custer (Nancy); her children Ken Soukup (Halley), Shelly Soukup, Katie (Soukup) Field (Shaun), and Jesse Carpurso (Kasey); her step-children James M. Carpurso (Lora), Gina (Carpurso) Tyler (Harry), John Carpurso (Mary), and Rosemary Carpurso. Carol was the proud grandmother of 16 grandchildren – Kendall, Kameron, Lily, Lucy, Austin, Colson, Asher, Ashley, Brianna, Nicholas, Chris, Katelyn, Kyle, Riley, Alina, and Adrienna, and 4 great-grandchildren – Jade, Christian, Grayson, and Noah.

The family will be holding a Celebration of Life on August 16, 2025, at 510 Ledge Road, Macedonia, Ohio, home of lifelong friend and sister-in-law, Susan (Carpurso) Gills. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Carol’s name.
