Carol Courtney Obituary

Carol Courtney (née Dimacchia), 89, of Fremont, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on December 17, 1936, Carol lived a life defined by devotion to her family, her faith, and her community.

A beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, and friend, Carol’s greatest joy was the family she built and nurtured. She is lovingly remembered by her seven daughters: Michelle (Rex) Trumpower, Celeste (Tom) Hasselbach, Theresa (Manny) Garcia, Laura (Don) Morris, Rose (Dave) Kuhl, Maureen (Dave) Meyer, and Collette (Jim) Dickman. She also leaves behind her cherished siblings, Carmalene Januzzi, Anita (Bill) Helbig, John (Barb) Dimacchia, and Peggy (Paul) Rutkowski; her sister-in-law, Nancy (Tony) Cacchione; along with 14 grandchildren and many great- and great-great-grandchildren who will carry forward her legacy of love.

Carol was preceded in death—just hours apart—by her devoted husband, Paul Courtney, a testament to a bond that endured until the very end. She shared 26 wonderful years with Paul and embraced his family as her own, including his four sons, three daughters, and their many grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Columbus and Josephine; her first husband, John Foisy, the father of her seven daughters; her second husband, Richard Miller; her sister, Joan; her brothers, Joseph and Marshall (and his wife, Beverly); her brother-in-law, Al Januzzi; and her grandson, Sean.

A proud graduate of Lorain St. Mary’s High School, Carol dedicated many years to both her family and her work. She began her career at Green Bay Packaging, working alongside her future sister-in-law, Evelyn Wolfe, and later spent 14 years in a clerical role at Brush Wellman before retiring in 1999. That same year, on June 23, she married Paul Courtney, and together they built a life filled with travel, laughter, and companionship.

Carol embraced life fully. She had a smile for everyone, an ever-positive attitude, and approached each day with a wonderful sense of humor. She was an active member of the Fremont Gourmet Club, the Eagles, the VFW, and the Moose Lodge, where she enjoyed playing cards, taking group bus trips, and forming lasting friendships. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—cheering on Cleveland baseball, rooting for Ohio State and Notre Dame, and spending time on the golf course.

Her love for sports extended far beyond spectating; she was a phenomenal athlete in her own right. In her younger years, she enjoyed ice skating, dancing, bowling (and served as treasurer of her league), coaching girls’ softball, and water skiing. Later, she became a dedicated golfer. If there was a game to be played, Carol was playing it—including a spirited game of horseshoes with her sons-in-law.

Carol also had a deep love for music. She began playing the clarinet in high school and, over the years, shared her talents by playing guitar at Mass in the 1970s, teaching music to her children, singing in church, and performing with Sweet Adelines.

Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Clyde and most recently worshiped at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fremont. Carol lived her faith through service—serving as a Eucharistic minister, lector, hosting Bible study groups, visiting the sick, and volunteering in any way she could.

Carol’s family is forever grateful to her devoted caregiver and friend, Connie Molter-Wagner, for the many months of compassionate care and support. They also extend their heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at United Energy Workers of Ohio, Elmwood Assisted Living, and Heartland Hospice of Fremont.
