Daniel Lee Strayer, 85, of Fremont, Indiana, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025. Born on March 30, 1939, in Neapolis, Ohio, Dan was the youngest of three children of the late Francis and Howard Strayer. He graduated from Anthony Wayne High School in Whitehouse, Ohio, before serving a stint in the US Army and Reserves.
Dan met Betty Schultz while she was skating with friends at the roller rink. They married in 1960. The newlyweds settled in Liberty Center, Ohio, where they raised their three children and made lifelong friends. Danny, as his friends always called him, worked in the warehouse at Campbell Soup Company in Napoleon before capitalizing on his Army radio training to attend tech school in electronics and starting his original television repair business in his garage in Liberty Center. Eventually, the garage gave way to storefronts in downtown Liberty Center, and then Grand Rapids, before he finally opened the store on Scott Street in Napoleon, Ohio known for decades as Strayer TV and Appliance. Dan and Betty eventually retired to split time between their home in Clear Lake, Indiana and Englewood, Florida.
Dan will be missed by Betty, his wife of 65 years; his sons, Lee Strayer (wife, Patty) and Christopher Strayer (wife, Sandy) and daughter, Pamela (husband, Randy); his grandchildren, Tyler Strayer, Kaylee Strayer, Sebastian Strayer Harrison, and Tori Strayer; and his sister, Donna Tiplady. His brother Russell preceded him in death.
Visitation for Dan will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, from 11:00AM, until the time of a private funeral service at 1:00PM, at Hanneman Funeral Home, 24084 East 2nd Street, Grand Rapids, Ohio, 43522. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Waterville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Dan's memory to the American Cancer Society.
