Dick Powell Obituary

Dick L. Powell, 92 of Findlay, Ohio, a Korean War Veteran, peacefully passed in the afternoon of Friday, January 12, 2024, at his home where he was surrounded by his loving and caring family.

Dick was born on June 25,1931, in Hancock County, Ohio.  He married Virginia Vanvo and they later divorced, he then married Charlotte Arnold and they later divorced, he then married Vivian Brown, and they later divorced, and he married Janet Harmon and they later divorced.  


Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Harriett (Nusser) Powell, his stepmother Mary (Crozier) Powell, and his siblings Bob Flemming, Toby Flemming, Nell Woodruff, twin brother Dave Powell, Saundra Franklin and Sharon Dietsch, his son in-law William Hamilton, an infant daughter Kathy, two grandchildren, and one 1 great-grandchild. 

Dick is survived by his sister Nancy (Steve Mellott) Powell.  Also, his children Rick Powell, Dale Powell, Kathie Hamilton, Nile (Bob) Powell, Rhonda George, James (Lorena) Powell, John Henschen, Tammy (Jeff) Stahl, Cindy Long, godson Michael Sowers, and numerous loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Dick was a graduate of Van Buren High School, where he played on the football team.  He also played baseball for the Findlay Merchants.  Dick proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.  He enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was fishing, trapping, or hunting.  He also enjoyed spending time with his closest friends John Woodruff, Eugene Underferth, Michael Sowers, Jimmy Rader, and Paul Hamlin driving around Hancock County looking at deer while drinking coffee, stopping at garage sales, and having their own garage sales.  Dick was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes and Pittsburg Steelers fan. Dick’s true love was his family where he genuinely enjoyed coaching Midget football teams and watching all his grandchildren, nieces and nephews play a variety of sports throughout the years.  He truly cherished the time he spent with all his family.


Visitation will be on Monday, January 15, 2024, from 9:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. at the Hanneman Funeral Home, 201 Osborn Ave., Findlay, OH 45840, followed by A Celebration of Life Service at 11:00a.m. Military honors will be rendered at the conclusion of the service by the Hancock County Memorial Squad.  Officiating will be Dick’s nephew, Mr. Heath Mellott.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Memorials be made in Dick’s name to:  The Flag City Honor Flight or Christian Clearinghouse.
