Donald Raymond Mitchell, 96, joined his wife, Faye, in Heaven on Friday, January 7, 2022 after a short stay at the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

He was born on January 11, 1925, to the late Clyde O. Mitchell  and Estella (Havens) Mitchell. He was a graduate of the Jackson Burgoon High School and served in the Military from February 1945 to December 1946, where he spent most of his time in the Pacific Theater during the occupation of Korea, serving as the Postmaster and trombone player in the band of the T15 6TH Infantry Division.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Faye (Beckman) Mitchell, his three brothers: Haven, Willis, Dale and sisters: Marilyn Miller and Norma Sass. Don is survived by daughters; Nancy (Jay) Stearns and Patricia (Kingsley) Meyer, grandchildren; Brad (Jamie), Chad, Amanda (Jenn Lombardi) Stearns, Kristin (Matt) Grindle, and great-grandchildren; Karli and Hailey Stearns.

Don was a life-long member of the Burgoon United Methodist Church, where he served many years as a trustee. He was also an original member of the dartball team and had the honor of being the longest standing member. As part of the Mitchell Family Farm, original land bought in 1832, he raised crops, had a dairy and was a pork producer. He helped all the generations of his children with 4-H projects for the Sandusky County Fair and State Fair. He was also a member of Pork Producers, Farm Bureau, Farmers Union, Harrison Trail Farm Council and VFW. He was also a member of the committee to set up the Zoning Board in Jackson Township. In his spare time, he was a member of two card clubs which started soon after he married and was an avid wood worker after “retirement” creating hundreds of pieces the he mostly gave to family members and built custom pieces for friends and neighbors. He and Faye also enjoyed many years of traveling after basic retirement and had visited all the states except Alaska, Hawaii and Louisiana.
