Obituary

On Saturday, February 27, 2021, Douglas Allyn Dukes, 73, of McComb was called home by his Heavenly Father.  Doug passed away in Florida, his favorite place to be.

Doug was born January 20, 1948, in Findlay, Ohio.  After high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army in the Vietnam War. Doug returned to the states and married Peggy Ann Adams on March 7, 1970.  They raised two daughters, Lisa and Anne, and a son, Steven.

Doug had a passion for meeting people.  It has been said that Doug never met a stranger as he could strike up a conversation with anyone.  Conversations was something he enjoyed and sought out.  Doug enjoyed working in his garden and was very particular about the way his yard looked, both at home and in Florida where he loved to spend the winters vacationing.

Doug enjoyed helping people and was always available to help in any way that he could.  He worked for Hancock-Wood Electric Co-Op as part of the outside crew for 32 years until he retired in 2005.  Doug enjoyed working for local farmers and did so for years in the evenings after work and on weekends.  This continued even into retirement.  He was also a volunteer Fireman for McComb for 10 years.  Doug was a member of the McComb First United Presbyterian Church.  There he served for  32 years as the outdoor groundskeeper, where he cared for the church’s outside property with the same care he did his own yard.  Doug also served as a trustee and usher at the church. If Doug wasn’t working in his yard or his garden, he was attending Panther football games, watching the Ohio State Buckeyes, Fox News or the weather channel on tv or visiting flea markets in search of oil cans for his collection.   Doug loved his late dog, Kendall, who was there in Heaven to greet him.   Doug was a jokester and was known for his wit and teasing.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Dukes, his mother Helen (Duffield) Dukes and his brother, Bill.  He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 51 years, Peggy, his three children Lisa (Chad) Fannin, Anne Dukes and Steven Dukes.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, McKenna and Tyler Fannin, and his sister Marylou Mumy.

Visitation will be Monday, March 8, 2021, from 10am until the time of his funeral service at 1pm in the Hanneman Funeral Home, 370 Park Dr S., McComb, Ohio 45858.  Internment to follow at the McComb Union Cemetery, where Military honors will be rendered by the Hancock County Memorial Squad.
