Flora Catherine (Cardone) DeVoe, passed away on October 7, 2021 at 7:05 am at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
She was born on September 19, 1934, in Lima, Ohio, to Henry and Margaret Cardone, who preceded her in death. On March 23, 1953, at Grace United Methodist Church in Lima, the Reverend Vernon VanBuren joined her in marriage to Fred “Bud,” DeVoe. They had 52 loving years together.
Flora worked for her father at Henry Cardone Builders, as a Deputy Auditor for Allen County, and for the Bluffton Public School System until her retirement. She was an active member of Shawnee United Methodist Church as a lay Pastor and took 13 mission trips supporting the people of Haiti until she was 85 years old. Flora was a 1952 graduate of Lima South High School. She spoke often of her 3 sons, 9 grandchildren, and 12 great-grand-children and truly enjoyed her family and friends, serving others with the spirit of Christ wherever she could.
Survivors include 3 sons: Henry Michael (Beth A) DeVoe of Lima, Mitchell Allen DeVoe of Eagle River Wisconsin, and Fred Matthew (Kristine) DeVoe of Schoolcraft Michigan. 9 grandchildren; Andrea Beth Ross of Columbus, Jessica Catherine DeVoe and Evan Michael DeVoe, both of Lima, Christina Marie DeVoe of Long Island NY, Victoria Lynne DeVoe, Claudia Jean Grenlund, all of Rockford, Illinois, and Leah Margaret Westra, of Grand Rapids Mi., Sadie Jeanette DeVoe, and Davis Frederick DeVoe, Schoolcraft Michigan. 12 great-grandchildren; William Michael Ross, Margaret Ann Ross, and Samantha Catherine Ross, of Columbus Ohio, Gavin Michael DeVoe, Isabella Grace DeVoe, Kayden Allen Dunlap, of Lima, Nicholas Robert LesCallett of Lima, Nadia Rose Meyer of Rockford Ill., Georgiana Evelyn Grenlund, Rockford Ill., Brady Matthew Westra, Blake Irving Westra, and Avery Mae Westra, of Grand Rapids, Mi. Flora has two surviving sisters, Nelda Cardone, and Margaret “Peggy” Mefferd both of Lima, and a brother; Charles “Buzz” Cardone of Cincinnati. Friends may call from 11am-12 noon on Monday October 11, 2021, at Shawnee United Methodist Church. Private family viewing will be from 10am to 11am at the church. Services will begin at 12 noon at Shawnee United Methodist Church, with Pastors Lori Seibert and Bryan Bucher officiating, with burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shawnee United Methodist Church in Flora’s name. Hanneman-Siferd is honored to be taking care of the DeVoe Family.
