Gene Kimmel Obituary

Gene A. Kimmel, 79, of Findlay, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay, after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Tiffin, Ohio, on February 8, 1946, to the late Wayne A. and Dorothy Rowena (Hutchinson) Kimmel. Gene married Barbara Lynn (Albert) Kimmel, on May 3, 1997, and she survives.

Gene is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Findlay; two sons: Brian Kimmel, of Hilliard, Ohio, and Ian (Aimee) Kimmel, of Carmel, Indiana; two step-daughters: Kelley (Tim) Fetterhoff and Allison (James) Jeffers, all of Findlay; seven grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Trent Kimmel, Tori Kimmel, Kayla Weyer, Brandon (Alyssa) Weyer, Mason Fetterhoff, Paige Jeffers and Ava Jeffers; step-great-grandchildren: Isabelle, Gracelynn, and Anaya. He is also survived by his brother, Donald (Clarice) Kimmel of Bradenton, Florida, and a sister, Della Lenhart, of Tiffin; and his beloved cat, Charley. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Kimmel, and a sister Margy Wenner, both of Tiffin.

Gene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Findlay, and a 1964 graduate of Tiffin High School. Gene proudly served in the United States Army from 1966-1968, being based in Germany and the United States. He worked at Fostoria Industries as a CAD design engineer, just short of 40 years due to plant closure.

In his free time, Gene enjoyed running 17 marathons, and countless half-marathons, 10Ks and 5Ks. Gene and Barbara also enjoyed traveling to National Parks. He will be remembered for the hundreds and even thousands of buckeyes he made and gave to family and friends at Christmas time. He will also be remembered as "The Wood Guy", participating in craft shows making beautiful scroll saw items to give as gifts or to make for others to give to their family and friends.

Gene's family would like to thank the staff at Blanchard Valley Hospital and the Bridge Hospice Care Center staff for their loving care, as well as Pastor Will Stenke for his visits in our time of need.
