Obituary for Jackie Sawmiller
Jackie Sawmiller, age 83, of Lima, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025, at his home in Lima. Born on June 5, 1941, in Lima, Ohio, Jackie was the son of Raymond Sawmiller and Millie Harris O'Connell, both of whom preceded him in death.
Jackie proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he earned several honorable mentions for his service. After returning to civilian life, he worked for 30 years as a pipefitter at Ford Motor Company, where he became known for his dedication and work ethic.
Jackie was a man with a heart of gold and was loved by all who knew him. His passions were many: he enjoyed fishing, followed The Ohio State University football and basketball teams with great enthusiasm, and cheered on the Boston Celtics and Red Sox, especially during the time spent with his beloved sister, Mildred. Jackie was often seen scooting around town, affectionately known as "Papa Jack" by those who knew him well.
He is survived by three daughters: Valerie (Mark) Bailey, Michelle (Todd) Maynard, and Darnesha Sawmiller. Jackie is also reunited with his son, Jack Wesley and Wives Anne who welcomed him into heaven. He leaves behind two sisters, Mildred (Sherman) Wilkins and Lorraine Horn Davis.
Jackie was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Leah, Matthew, Nathan, Nick, Shelly, Bree, and Jenna. He was also a great-grandfather to Marlin Cannon, Joshua, Max, Alex, Victoria and will be deeply missed by special family member, Trina Cannon, who was more than a caregiver but a treasured part of his life.
To honor Jackie's life and legacy a visitation will be held Friday February, 7th, 2025 10am-1 with funeral services beginning at 1pm at Hanneman -Siferd Funeral Home Lima. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of choice in his memory.
Jackie's warmth, humor, and kind nature will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
