James Fuerst Obituary

James M. “Jim” Fuerst, 93, of Delphos, passed away on October 9, 2023 at 7:45pm, at CHP Hospice Center, Defiance, Ohio. He was born on September 16, 1930, in Delphos, the son of Leo and Louise (Plotscher) Hummer, who preceded him in death. After his mother passed away, he was adopted by his aunt and uncle, Naomi and Pete Fuerst, who gave him a loving home and family environment. In 1955, he married Lillian Bishop, who preceded him in death.

Jim was a Veteran, of both the Army and the Air Force. This experience made him a jack of all trades, and he contracted himself out as labor to factories and other businesses, and even owned a bar in New York at one time. He was pretty onery, and his family says he was quite a character. He was loved by his family and his friends and he’ll be missed by them.

Survivors include: daughter; Brenda (Mike) Howe of Pandora, and son: Jimmy Fuerst of Florida. His sister is; Sheila (Dave) Gunter, of Delphos. Jim’s grandchildren are; Colby, Morgana, and Christina Leigh, and 6 great-grandchildren. His niece Melanie Brinkman, was his caregiver and made sure he had everything taken care of on any given day. He was preceded in death by a son; David Fuerst: brothers; Daniel Hummer, Richard Hummer, and Mike Fuerst.

The Family will hold a Memorial Service at their convenience. Hanneman-Siferd Funeral home is honored to take care of the Hummer/Fuerst Families, and to help lay this Veteran to rest.
