James A. Meyer, of Weston, Ohio, was sent to heaven on January 6, 2026. He was born November 27, 1943 to the late Arthur & Margaret (Eschedor) Meyer in Center Township, Wood County, Ohio. He married "Cookie" Esther DeWitt Meyer September 30, 1989 and they were together until she passed away on July 19, 2012.
Jim is survived by his children: Lisa Meyer, Kristin Meyer Callender (Ryan), Kevin Meyer (Dawnaka), Cindy Lewis Sheffer (Mark), Stephanee Lewis Wohler (Wendell), Julie Lewis: his grandchildren: Carter & Jackson, Kylah & Hayden, Logan, Dawson, Tiffany and Tracey (Misha); and (2) great-grandchildren. Jim didn't believe in the word "step". He also leaves behind his sisters: Karen (Louis) Richards, Kathy (Larry) Gates; brother, Timothy (Carol) Meyer, and his beloved dog Tusky. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Margaret, his wife "Cookie", a sister Susan McLaughlin, and brother-in-law, Ralph DeWitt (Jetty).
Jim was a 1961 graduate of Otsego High School. He was a member of the first football team and their very first game and win, was against Lake. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War serving in Hue-Phu Bai, South Vietnam. He was decorated with the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After being honorably discharged, he returned to the US earning his Bachelor's Degree from Defiance College and was employed at the General Motors Foundry in Defiance, Ohio where he held various positions/responsibilities-molder, quality control, Supervisor of Safety & Training, and the bulk of his career, as a Line Supervisor until his retirement 7/1/2005. He also enjoyed teaching in the Eastwood School District. He is a member of the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, Perrysburg, Ohio. He was past member of the American Foundrymens' Society and the UAW Local 211 where he served as a committeeman. He was a Charter Member of the VFW of Grand Rapids, Ohio and a volunteer fireman/EMT in Highland Township in Defiance County. He enjoyed HO and N Gauge model trains, traveling in his RV, and being a "wannabe lumberjack" cutting down dead trees.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026 from 10:00 am until the time of his funeral service at 12:00 pm in the DECK-HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME, 1460 W. Wooster St., Bowling Green, OH. Burial will follow in the Weston Cemetery.
