It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Richard Oberlin, who left us on January 1, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on July 7, 1946, in Wauseon, Ohio, Jim was a lifelong resident of West Unity Ohio, spending the recent years in Sylvania, Ohio, where he lived out his days surrounded by family.
A proud graduate of Hilltop High School in West Unity, Ohio, Jim furthered his education at Miami University, where his love for numbers blossomed into a successful career as an accountant. Known for his meticulous nature and sharp intellect, he made a lasting impact in the accounting world. Jim was employed for many years at Aro Corporation in Bryan Ohio.
Jim was more than just a numbers guy. He had a passion for life that was evident in everything he did. He found community and fellowship through being a member of the American Legion Unit 669. He was an active member of numerous other fraternal organizations namely: Moose Lodge 312 Montpelier, Ohio, Bryan Lodge 215 F&A.M. of Ohio; Zenobia Shriners and the West Unity United Methodist Church.
When he wasn’t crunching numbers, Jim loved to hit the golf course, collect coins, and dive into a good book. He brought joy to those around him with his kind spirit and infectious laughter.
Jim is survived by his loving spouse, Beverly "Bev" Oberlin; children: Lisa (Chris) Vrooman and Mike (Georgia) Strube; 4 granddaughters; 1 great granddaughter and 1 great grandson on the way; his uncle and aunt Jack (Jean) Oberlin and special cousins Jeff (Chris) Oberlin.
Contributions in his honor may be gifted to the West Unity United Methodist Church or JR Wyse American Legion of Ohio.
A Celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
