Jane Carol Wise (née Shaw), 77, of Findlay, Ohio and Mesa, Arizona, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 30, 2025 in Scottsdale, Arizona.
She was born May 8, 1947 in Canton, Ohio to Robert and Arleen Shaw, who both preceded her in death. She graduated from Glenwood High School in Canton, Bowling Green State University, where she majored in education and obtained her Masters Degree through St. Joseph's College. At BG, she met Stan, whose textbook she "borrowed" then sold. Little did she know he was the man who would steal her heart and become the love of her life. It didn't take long for them to realize they were destined for each other and they married August 23, 1969.
They settled in Findlay where they started their family. Jane started her teaching career at North Baltimore, then at Jacobs Elementary and finally at Liberty-Benton where she taught a range of grade levels from elementary school to where she "finished" her career teaching middle school science. She never stopped being a teacher though. From making sure the grandkids always had at least 1 "education day" when they came to visit in the summers to teaching tennis to the residents of Monte Vista in Mesa, she was a teacher to the end. She loved sports, playing volleyball and tennis and then coaching both - volleyball at LB and tennis in Mesa.
She always held a love for science and was proud of her children for their careers in medicine and nursing. She was on the Auxillary Board at Blanchard Valley Medical Center and co-led the development of the Cuddle program in the Special Care Nursery where she managed and trained the volunteers and spent countless hours holding the most fragile of babies, giving them love and comfort as they struggled transitioning into the world.
She and Stan were avid travelers, trekking across Europe and Scandinavia together. They also frequently traveled with their dear friends Tom and Mary Jo Carpenter to Hawaii, their most recent trip shortly before her passing.
She believed in kindness, generosity, and the importance of education. She was stubborn, tenacious, independent, compassionate and adventurous. Jane was an amazing grandmother, traveling to see her grandkids in every game, meet, concert, or dance performance that she could to support them and cheer them on.
She is survived by Stan and her children Melanie Klein (Chris) of Hinckley and Marc of Liberty Township, her sister, Elaine Keller (Rick) of Bremen, Indiana, and her baby brother, Bob (Debbie), of Cincinnati. She will be remembered and missed by the grandchildren she so dearly loved: Connor, Rian, Mason, Sofia, and Cameron and her nieces and nephews, for some of whom she was also a stand-in grandmother after her own mother passed away: Brian, Bethany, Mikaela, Mac, Meredith, Pam, Paula, Lori, and TJ.
Visitation for Jane will be held on Tuesday, April 8 2025, from 3:00PM-7:00PM at HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME, 201 Osborn Avenue, Findlay, Ohio, 45840. Additional visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 9, from 10:00AM, until the time of a funeral service at 11:00AM, also at the funeral home. She will await her final internment until Stan is able to join her. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Special Care Nursery at Blanchard Valley Medical Center.
