Janet Cole Obituary

Janet Rose Cole

April 23, 1933 – March 8, 2021

Age 87

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I announce the passing of my dear wife and best friend Janet Rose Cole. Janet was the loving daughter of Edward and Marie David. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on Sunday, April 23, 1933 and she passed through the Gates of Heaven peacefully from her home in Liberty Center, Ohio on Monday, March 8, 2021 at 7:25 P.M. Oh what a glorious day for Janet. She will never be forgotten, she will remain in my heart forever, I will think of her every day, she will be with me wherever I go and we will be together again in Heaven when God calls me home. Janet graduated from Waite High School and she received a Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Toledo on Saturday, June 9, 1956. Janet and I were married on Friday, June 20, 1958, and God granted us 62 years of happily married life. After a short period of time teaching, it was decided she would stay home to care for and raise our three children, Brian, Arlene, and David. She did a commendable job, especially with our “special needs” daughter Arlene, who today at the age of 60 enjoys continuing good health and is a very happy and carefree individual. They all dearly miss their Mother. Janet grew up in the “Point Place” area of Toledo and spent the summer weekends at her family’s cottage on Wamplers Lake in the Irish Hills in the state of Michigan. There she enjoyed the warm summer days boating, fishing with her Dad and swimming with her Mother, Sister, and Brother. Janet liked horses and in her younger years would go riding whenever she had the opportunity. Her artistic ability enabled her to draw realistic pictures of them. Janet was an excellent cook having learned her cooking skill early in life. Her parents both worked and she, her sister, and brother performed the daily activity of running a household. Janet possessed great sewing skills and she hand made many beautiful dolls and dressed and restored antique dolls for many people. Janet thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, feeding the birds, gardening, taking care of her flowers and removing dandelions and weeds by hand from her yard. Janet enjoyed just being with her family, attending family celebrations, visiting relatives, eating out and taking short day trips. She also enjoyed attending auctions and sales looking for antique cut glass items and oak furniture which she could refinish and restore to its original condition. Janet would always assist me with whatever do-it-yourself project I was working on. She worked by my side from start to finish and helped me in whatever way she could. During the 30 years I worked after our marriage, without ever being asked, she would get up every morning and prepare my breakfast and when I would carry a lunch, she would always prepare it for me. She would watch me leave and she would always be home to greet me and prepare my dinner which could be any hour of the evening. Janet always put the welfare of others first. Janet lived her life on the bright side. She never complained of anything and I never heard her say an unkind word about anyone during the 68 years I knew her. Janet was truly a child of God. Janet accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her own personal saviour and was baptized on Sunday, September 29, 1957 at the Lewis Avenue Baptist Church, located at that time in Toledo, Ohio. I am eternally thankful to God for bringing Janet into my life and me into hers.  Janet was preceded in death by her father and mother, Edward and Marie David; sister Phyllis Gover; and brother Richard David. Janet is survived by her loving husband Gary; son Brian (Tracey) Cole; daughter Arlene Cole; and son David (Lynette) Cole; granddaughters Taryn Cole, Dana (Tim) Rodenbeck, Megan Cole, Leah Cole and Chloe Cole; great grandchildren: Cayden, Mason, Brynn, Teagen, and Emersyn; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Eugene and Judy Cole; sister-in-law Ruthann Cole; special sister-in-law Ruth David; and her special and dear friend Ruby Smith.Due to COVID-19, there was no visitation at the funeral home. Private funeral services were held on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the Lewis Avenue Baptist Church located in Temperance, Michigan with Pastor Steve Hobbins officiating. Interment followed at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park in Toledo, Ohio. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Hanneman Family Funeral Home located in Liberty Center, Ohio. In honor of Janet’s life here on Earth, the funeral director Cathy Hoffman, released a beautiful white dove at Janet’s gravesite and it gracefully soared away.
