John Comings Obituary

John Frederick Comings was born on June 10, 1951 in Oberlin, Ohio to Eugene and Elizabeth (Shaffer) Comings.  John and his family lived in Bryan, Ohio in his early years and then ultimately moved to Bowling Green, Ohio which he called home until his death on February 12, 2023.

John was a proud Bowling Green High School Class of 1969 graduate.  After serving two years in the Army with honor, he had a robust and diverse work career during his life as an employee of LaSalle's in downtown BG, at Biofit Engineered Products, Phoenix Technologies and most recently, as an employee at Wood County Hospital.

John was an engaging, positive, caring and devoted son, husband, stepfather, brother, uncle and friend.  His sense of humor always brought a laugh and smile to everyone he encountered and his servant's heart came shining through to those he interacted with on a daily basis.

John often said his proudest accomplishment was his marriage to his beautiful wife Lynne and they enjoyed 42 years together where love, respect, teamwork, humor and honoring family and friends were the pillars of their life.

John is survived by his wife Lynne (Norris) of Bowling Green, Ohio, his stepson Rod McCracken of Haskins, Ohio, stepdaughter Heather Dubbe (Kent) of Granville, Ohio and granddaughter Crystal Osborn of Milan, Ohio; his sisters - Mary Gibler of Hamilton, Ohio, Sandy Maidment of Bowling Green, Ohio and Peggy Babcock of Columbus, Ohio and brother Bill Comings (Deb) of Oak Ridge, Tennessee and brothers-in-law: Tom Norris (Lorraine) of Allison Park, Pennsylvania and Brent Norris (Deborah) of Weston, Ohio and nieces and nephews - Shiela Stoops (Scott) of Montpelier, Ohio, Cindy Fosi of Riverbank, California, Shelley Appelbaum of Elk Rapids, Michigan, Ed Gibler (Phyllis) of West Chester, Ohio, Brad Maidment (Crystal) of Perrysburg, Ohio, Ryan Ernst of San Antonio, Texas, Michelle Alanis (Tomas) of San Antonio, Texas and Mike Babcock of Grove City, Ohio, numerous great nieces and nephews and his beloved dogs, Annie and Lexie.

Preceding John in death are his father Eugene Comings, his mother Elizabeth (Shaffer) Comings, in-laws, Donald and Evalyn Norris, sisters Dorothy Koller and Barbara Klopfenstein, brothers-in-law Norman Appelbaum, Chuck Koller, Virgil Gibler and Rex Klopfenstein, Sr. and his nephews, Nathan Appelbaum and Mark Koller and his niece, Lisa Maidment.

As a tribute to John, please offer a smile to a stranger, hold open a door for a person in need, tell a cute joke to lift someone's spirits and hug the people and animals you love and make every second count.  He exemplified a life where random acts of kindness were in his DNA and he will be missed by those who knew and loved him and his positive attitude will forever be carried in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life to honor John will be held Friday, March 31, at the Simpson Garden from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
