John H. Smith, 89, went to be with the Lord on June 19, 2024, at 1:43 am, at OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. He was born in Hinds, Mississippi. The son of Nathan and Annie Mae Smith, on November 26, 1934. Both parents have preceded him in death. He was married to Kathey (Roberts) Smith in 2005, and she survives in Lima.
John was an Assembly Line Worker at Ford Motor company, Lima Engine Plant, for 25 years. He enjoyed fishing, mowing his lawn and nurturing it and had a beautiful lawn to show for it. He enjoyed reminiscing and telling stories. He loved to travel, and would drive to Florida straight through, as driving was one of his passions in life. His family got to see this country and all its beauty because John would take them, not just to tourist places, but to the offbeat locations, where they could meet many people and learn about other parts of the country. He was a family man, and loved them all very much.
Left to cherish his memory in addition to Kathey, are; Cassandra (Marius) Smith-Igwe of Dublin OH., Manette (Frankie) Smith of Middletown OH., Dana (Linda) Smith of Indianapolis IN., Lloyd Smith of Columbus OH., Dedrick (Janelle) Tory of Memphis, TN., John H. (Ruby) Shepard, of Greenville, Miss. His siblings; a brother; Myles (Deborah) Smith of Lima, and 2 sisters; Tempy Anderson of Lima, and Queenie Harris of Atlanta GA. John has 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son; Craig Smith, his grandson; Javin Duncan; and by several siblings; Charles Smith, Buddy Smith, Willie Smith, Cary Smith, Pinnie Washington, and Willa Mae Anderson.
