Larry D. Coppes Sr. , 80, passed away on December 13, 2024 at his residence. He was born in Findlay, Ohio on May 29, 1944, the son of Clyde and Betty (Keeran) Coppes. Both parents have preceded him in death. He was married to Lela Coppes, who passed away on December 17, 2008. She was the love of his life.
Larry had worked at Dow Chemical, and as a machinist at Midwest Stamping, but retried after working at Meijer, in 1998. He was a bowler, loved card games with his family especially. The Saturday night card games had some fond memories for his family. He was a Kansas City Chiefs and Ohio State Buckeye Fan, He and Lela were members of The Salvation Army, and they did so much for others during their lives, and were so rewarded for their Godly work with children of the community. He led the Boy Scouts, played in the Band, and taught Sunday School. They had taken several children to camp each year, and would load up a van from McComb to Findlay for Sunday Services. Larry and Lela devoted much of their time to the Salvation Army, and God truly blessed them both. He will be sorely missed as a “Santa’s helper,” on Christmas, and truly missed and remembered by his friends and family. His white hair and beard reminded everyone of Jolly Old St. Nick, and life won’t be the same without him.
He is survived by his children; Faith Hanners of Findlay, Lizabeth (Paul) Klemans of Findlay, Larry Coppes Jr of Amherst, and LeRay (Tammy) Coppes, of Hoytville. Larry has 14 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son; Larry Campbell: Siblings; Carol Decker, Karen Kidd, and Linda Howard: Great grandson; Cephas Rader.
