Marvin Davenport, 74, of Fremont, passed away on January 12, 2025 after a lengthy battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
He was born in Fremont, OH on February 27, 1950 to Lewis "Pete" and Helen (Ward) Davenport. Marv was the youngest of six growing up in an old school house in Green Springs, OH. He attended Green Springs High School where he graduated in 1968. After high school, Marv enlisted into the United States Navy. He served as a boiler operator on the USS Albany and the USS Richard L. Page from 1969 to 1973. He met Barbara Baker in 1973 and the two were married on August 3, 1974.
Marv was a very hard and dedicated worker. He worked at Whirlpool Corporation in Clyde, OH for 39 years before retiring in 2012. When not at work, Marv enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. These were hobbies that he shared a love for with his brothers and many of his nephews. During the summer months, he could be found tending to his beautiful flower beds and his yard. Marv loved camping with his family and friends. He traveled all over the United States and Canada with his wife and daughters western square dancing. Over the last 14 years though his favorite past time was spent with his 5 grandchildren. He was always meant to be a grandpa!
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of over 50 years; Barb (Baker) Davenport, daughters; Tanya (Christopher Justin) Davenport and Kelly (Dustin Rohrs) Davenport, grandchildren; Draven Knisely, Treva Justin, Pearl Justin, Cora Knisely and Marvin Justin, sister; Beverly (Jim) Barr, sister-in-laws; Shirley, Starr, and Edna, along with many nieces and nephews.
Marv was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Eldon, Donald, Harold and Sanford Davenport, sister-in-law Liz Davenport, in-laws Delbert and Mary (Minich) Baker and brother-in-law Richard Baker.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to fremontrossalumniandfriends.org, Heartland Hospice or DAV-Disabled American Veterans. Visitation will be held on Friday January 17, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM at Hanneman-Keller Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch St, Fremont, OH 43420. Funeral services will begin at 6:30 PM. Burial will take place at a later time.
