Mary E. LaGesse
Mary Ellen (Gidlof) LaGesse, 88, of Iron River, WI and Lake Havasu, AZ passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 28, 2021. She was born on December 5, 1932, to Bertha Little (Gidlof) Armbruster and John A. Gidlof in Port Wing, WI. She married the love of her life, John L. LaGesse on December 27, 1952. During their working years, she and John lived in Toledo, OH where they raised their family. Upon retirement in 1990 they returned back to her beloved Iron River.
Mary and John traveled and found they loved Lake Havasu, Arizona and they purchased a home where they would spend their winters. Throughout her life, Mary enjoyed an active lifestyle taking up golf where she scored three hole in ones each in Wisconsin, Arizona and California. She also enjoyed the sport of deer and elk hunting but her favorite pastime was spent on the lake fishing. Mary was very active in the International Ship Masters Association (ISMA) having held the position of President and Secretary/Treasurer in Toledo, OH. She was a member of the Iron River Area Foundation where she also held the position of Secretary/Treasurer for many years.
She will be remembered as a woman whose life involved family, friends and seeing life through rose-colored glasses.
Mary is survived by her children, Louise LaGesse, Mary Grzybowski, Paula (Scott) Jahns, Patrick LaGesse, 7 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents; and siblings Louise Berkovich, Darlene Lundeen and Robert Armbruster.
Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
A Celebration of Life service for Mary will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at 11:00 am at Deck-Hanneman Family Funeral Homes, 1460 W. Wooster St., Bowling Green, OH 43402. The service will stream live via the Hanneman Family Funeral Homes Facebook page.
