Mary Stehle Obituary

Mary Ellen Stehle passed away peacefully at Gaymont Nursing home on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at 98 years of age.

Mary Ellen was born in Cleveland Ohio on February 14, 1922 the eldest of 4 children and daughter of Joseph Patrick and Olive Shannon. Mary Ellen was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and was a member of the choir, where she loved to sing.

After her mother Olive passed away at a young age. Mary Ellen took the responsibility of looking after her younger siblings, a job she took very seriously, because she had to be a good example and always was.

After her marriage to Walter Stehle she moved to California to raise her family. Mary Ellen and Walter raised 2 children, Tim and Regina. Mary Ellen enjoyed many years as a Beautician, but felt the calling to teach. She attended College for 2 years but a full time job and raising a family was too much so she had to give it up. Years later she fulfilled her dream of teaching by taking on religious education in the Catholic Church. Which she did joyfully for over 30 years.

After Walters passing she moved back to Ohio and continued her many charitable activities. Among them she was a member of the Legion of Mary in her church. Mary Ellen was also a member of the American Legion auxiliary and marched in the Milan Memorial day parade in her 80s, several years in a row. At Saint Paul’s Parish, she was an office volunteer and helped in the afterschool reading program. She was a Eucharistic minister for many years as well. At Gaymont, where she spent the last nine years of her life, she participated in every activity she could and was well loved by all that knew her. She always had a song to sing and a smile on her face for everyone she encountered.

Left to mourn her is her daughter Regina, daughter-in-law Adriana Jimenez de Stehle and sister Regina Percival. Along with many grandchildren, nieces,
and nephews.

Preceding her in death is her loving husband Walter, and son Tim Stehle her siblings Katherine Stack and Joseph Raymond Shannon.

To Quote Mary Ellen: “One of my goals is to be able to see Christ in all others, no matter who or what they are. Through prayers and good works, I’m hoping the light of Christ will shine through me”. For those that had the pleasure of knowing her, she accomplished her goal.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be gifted in Mary Ellen's honor to the  Little Sisters of the Poor, 1028 Benton Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15212.

A private Memorial Mass will be held at the St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Catholic Church, Norwalk with her nephew, Fr. Gabriel Stack, celebrant.
