Maxine Hagemeyer Obituary

Maxine Lou Hagemeyer, 85, passed away on April 27, 2023. Maxine was born in Fremont, OH to the late Donald and Marian (Gahn) Miller. Maxine married Carl Hagemeyer on August 8, 1959 and they celebrated 58 years of marriage until he passed away on October 3, 2017.

Maxine is survived by her children: Kathryn (Brian) Wilhelm of Custar, OH; John (Karen) Hagemeyer of Bowling Green, OH; Cheryl Hagemeyer-Vetter (Tony Vetter) of Bowling Green, OH; grandchildren: Nichole (Neil) Wilhelm Sanghavi, Jesicca (Tim) Sautter; McKenzie Wilhelm (Vishal Yeddanapalli), Jack, Luke and Zane Hagemeyer; great-grandchildren: Beau, Zoey, Grady, and Charlotte; and brother: Dale (Joyce) Miller. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; and a brother, Larry Miller (Marcia Miller-Hjelle).

Maxine had a true love for children and babysat for both grandchildren and neighborhood families. She volunteered with, and was an active member of, a number of organizations.  She volunteered at Friendly Visitors and helped with craft work at Wood County Nursing Home. She was involved with The Elizabeth Circle, Worship Committee, Altar Guild, Church Council, Soup and Salad Luncheons, Good News Amen Committee, and taught both Catechism and Sunday School at Hope Lutheran Church.  She also served on the Northwest Ohio Synodical Board of The Women of ELCA.  She read to residents at the Luther Home of Mercy and taught Bible School in Hughes, Alaska. She also led Heritage Corner bible studies and lent a helping hand at Martha's Kitchen. Other notable organizations include:  Four Seasons Garden Club, Silver Cross Circle of King's Daughters and Sons, Portage Arbor of Gleaners, and Portage Township Homemakers. She studied her bible, asked how she could be the hands and feet of Jesus, and wanted to share the love and joy of Christ to everyone.

Maxine's family is grateful for the medical and care staff who helped her through her four and a half year battle with breast cancer. A special thank you to the staff at Orion Cancer Center and the dedicated staff who cared so well for her, in her home, through her last weeks of life. Maxine's positive attitude and deep faith fueled the joy that she shared with others every day of her life.

Contributions may be gifted to Hope Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
