Obituary

Melvyn G. Halpern, 78, passed away at Lima Memorial Health System after a short illness. He was born in Lima on April 21, 1945, the son of Nathan and Molly (Weisberg) Halpern, both parents preceded him in death. On June 18, 1966 he married Diane Stemen, and she survives in Lima. She was Melvyn’s sweetheart.

Mel was a machinist at Sunstrand in Lima, after they shut down, he did various small jobs, and spent time with his Family. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, US Army, and proudly served his country. He was a friendly and genuinely nice man, and was well liked by all who knew him.

In addition to Diane,  Mel’s surviving children include; Deana Brown, and David Halpern, both of Lima. His former son-in-law, who considered him a father, is Dave Brown, also survives. His grandchildren; Joel, Jenna, Brooke, Taylor, Megan, and Drew. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jaden Halpern.
