Merrill E. “Ted” Mohler, 97, of Liberty Center, Ohio passed away October 5, 2021. Ted was born to the late Winfield and Kathryn (Russell) Mohler on December 28, 1923 in Liberty Center, Ohio. He married Bonnie Bowers on November 30, 1947 and she survives.
Ted proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II. He was a POW, and earned a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Ted was a charter member of the Liberty Center American Legion and a 75-year member of the VFW in Liberty Center. Ted was a lifelong farmer. He served numerous terms as a township trustee, drove school bus, was a Past Athletic Booster President, served as a Director on the Henry County Bank Board for 19 years and was Lifetime member of the Liberty Center Education Foundation. Ted was a member of the Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church and an active member of Gideon’s International. He loved to go to auctions and find the best deals.
Ted is survived by his wife of 73 years, Bonnie; daughters: Linda (Jim) Vollmar, Louise Dalton, Sharon (Bill) Sharpe; son Dave (Karen) Mohler; 11 grandchildren- Tammy (Tom) Oelkrug, David (Sarah) Sharpe, Keith (Kim) Kern, Kara (Joseph) Langston, Kenzy (Madison) Kern, Sarrah (Norm) Zeiter, Scott (Kristin) Sharpe, Emily (Nick) Hill, Todd (Carrie) Mohler, Kevin (Denise) Mohler, Jason (Darcie) Mohler and 2 step-grandchildren- Amy Bryant and Matt (Jamie) Vollmar; 45 great grandchildren, and 9 step great great grandchildren. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, sister Bernadine Kane; brothers Adrian Winfield Mohler, Kenzie Mohler, and DeMont Mohler.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 10:00 AM in Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church, 9474 County Road V, Liberty Center, Ohio 43532. Interment in Young Cemetery with Military Honors will be private for the family. Memorial Contributions in Ted’s honor may be gifted to the Liberty Chapel Church, Lifewise Academy, the Liberty Center Athletic Boosters, the Liberty Center Education Foundation, or a Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
