Phyllis Marie (Abbott) Irving, 84, passed away November 26, 2021. Phyllis was born on November 25, 1937 to the late Harold and Rosa Ruth (Gill) Abbott in Weston, Ohio. She married Charles Irving on November 24, 1955 and they lived in Liberty Center until he preceded her in death in 2006.
Phyllis graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1955. She worked as a clerk for the Village of Liberty Center as well as the grocery stores in both Grand Rapids and Liberty Center. Phyllis was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. She loved music and she played piano, accordion, clarinet, and ukulele. While Charles was alive, everyone enjoyed watching them dance as they were excellent dancers and they had their own unique style. Phyllis also enjoyed sewing and did alterations for others. She will be remembered as a gentle person, always had a smile, and a sense of humor.
Phyllis is survived by her 4 children: Virginia (Charles) Mueller, Joan (Alvin) Hoffman, Chuck (Sue) Irving and Patrick (Sue) Irving; 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; and her brother Emerson Abbott. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, granddaughter Shana Mueller and step-grandson Michael Neuenschwander.
Visitation for Phyllis will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the Hanneman Funeral Home, 24084 W. Second Street, Grand Rapids, Ohio 43522. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 14010 South River Road, Grand Rapids, Ohio with internment to immediate follow in Beaver Creek Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions in Phyllis’s memory may be gifted to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
