Richard G Coleman, 83, passed away at Blanchard Valley Health System on January 6, 2021
Dick was born February 10, 1937 in Fremont, Ohio to Raymond Richard and Nettie (Waggoner) Coleman.
He married Edith (Sims) Oct 4, 1958 and she survives.
Dick was a 1956 graduate of Fremont Ross whereas a Little Giant, he excelled at track, wrestling and football, earning 7 letters wearing purple and white. He went on to Purdue University on a football scholarship and graduated in 1960. He retired after 30 years of teaching middle school science and coaching football for his alma mater.
Along with his wife of 62 years, surviving are sons Steven (Laura) Alto, MI, John (Lisa), and daughter Becky (Larry) Bern both of Findlay. Daughter Sherri (James) Brunner of Fremont preceded him in 2019. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: James (Angela) Brunner III, San Jose, CA, Erin Brunner, Fremont, Zachary Brunner, Findlay, Joshua Brunner, Corvallis, OR, Corey (Kelley) Bern, Toledo, Logan Bern, Auburn, AL, Richard (Cheri) Coleman, Billerica, MA, Kelly, Katelynn, Ashley, Kelsey Coleman, Findlay. And 2 great grandchildren, Conner Brunner, Fremont, Elia Brunner, CA.
Family and Football were Dick’s passions and coaching his calling. He was inducted into The Fremont Ross High School Athletic Hall of Fame as both an individual in 2001 and as a member of the 1956 team in 2018. The former Football Team Captain and All-Ohioan loved all things sports and attended as many of his children and grandchildren’s sporting events as possible. Dick even admitted later in life that soccer was great for conditioning future football players.
