Robert Elling Sr.

Robert Elling Sr., 82, of Swanton, Ohio passed away January 30, 2024. Bob was born on October 24, 1941 to the late Lorenz and Irene (Kinder) Elling in Fulton County, Ohio. He married Judy Bechstein on January 14, 1961 and she survives.

Bob was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church. He was known as the “Mayor of CR 3” and loved talking with everyone. Bob loved to go camping, telling stories, being a “jack of all trades,” making lists, and labeling everything. He was an avid Miami Dolphins fan and a supporter of Liberty Center Athletics. Bob loved his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and he will be greatly missed.

Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Judy; children: Joy (Rob) Sargent, Rob (Terri) Elling Jr., Doug (Joy), Julie (Chad) Hefflinger; grandchildren: Courtney, James, Cody, Cassi, Caleb, Jakob, Sam, Henry, Todd, Derek, Bryan; 13 great grandchildren; and sisters Rosella (Jerry) Hannewald and Glenna Mae (Kenny) Helmke and his four-legged companion Junior.  He was preceded in death by his sisters Iretha and Opal.

Visitation for Bob will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024 from 3:00 – 7:30 PM in the Hanneman Funeral Home, 302 E. Maple Street, Liberty Center, Ohio. Additional visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 from 10:00 AM until the time of his funeral service at 11:00 AM in the St. Luke Lutheran Church, 1588 OH-108, Wauseon, OH 43567. Interment will immediately follow in St. Luke Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Bob’s honor may be gifted to the church or the Liberty Center Athletic Boosters.
