Robert Wilson Obituary

Robert Marshall Wilson, 80, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away Thursday, February 20, 2020.  He was born on October 18, 1939 to the late Robert Fitzpatrick and Eugenia (Kyle) Wilson in Reading, Pennsylvania.  He married Antonia (Gigliello) Wilson on June 17, 1967 and she survives him in Bowling Green.

Marshall is also survived by his daughter Laura J Witherow of Cincinnati, Ohio; son Dan L. Wilson of Bowling Green; grandson Oscar Witherow; and brother James K. Wilson. 

Marshall graduate from Penn State University in 1961 with is undergraduate in chemical engineering. He went on to earn is PhD from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and worked at Harvard University for his post doctorate.  After Harvard, Marshall moved to Cincinnati to be a professor at The University of Cincinnati.  In 2005 he became a faculty member at Bowling Green State University in the chemistry department.  Marshall loved his work and during his 53 year career in higher education Marshall, among other contributions to science, developed new ways of studying DNA using the effects of light on its components.  In recognition of his work, the Interamerican Photochemical Society has named him a fellow, an honor reserved for only 2% of about 600 chemists. He was also an amateur ornithologist. He and Antonia traveled the world and loved to go to new places to see if they could spot a bird they had never seen before. His favorite places to go were Magee Marsh Wildlife Beach & Crane Creek Estuary Trial.

A Memorial Service for Marshall will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 12 NOON in the Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home, 1460 W Wooster Street, Bowling Green, Ohio 434302.  Immediately following the service, refreshments will be provided in Remembrance Banquet Hall at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions in Marshall honor may be gifted to Bridge Hospice of Bowling Green.
