Ronald Martin Gillogly, 91, of Mt. Cory passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2023.
Ronald was born on May 9, 1932 in Findlay, Ohio to the late Raymond and Amanda (Walter, Ellinwood) Gillogly. He was also preceded in death by his half-brother Raymond D. Ellinwood and a half sister Dorthy May (Ellinwood) Lively. Ronald is survived by his wife Dortha Jean (Greene, Entsminger) Gillogly whom he married November 23, 1960. Also surviving is a son Jeffrey (Christine) Gillogly; step-sons: Gary (Laney) and Brad (Kathy) Entsminger; 8 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Of the memories Ronald had, several stood out that he shared when he had a chance. One was when he and his neighbor friend, the late Myrel Mallory were 16 and hitch hiked to the Grand Canyon in Arizona during the summer school vacation of 1948, sleeping out at night, arriving at the canyon, walking down the trail and sleeping with the Hopi Indians overnight, then walking back to the top the next day.
The most he loved to share was when on November 26, 1981 (Thanksgiving day) when Ronald, his wife and son Jeff accepted Jesus Chris as their Lord and Savior. Ronald retired from Bluffton Paving (formerly Conrad Bros) in 1994 where he was a heavy equipment operator for twenty-eight years. Ronald was on the Findlay Police Department from 1954-1963. He served on the village council of Mt Cory for a short term before being elected Mayor in 1970 til 1978 and then again from 2000-2004.
Ronald retired from the National Guard in 1976 which he first joined in 1948. He enlisted in the Army in 1949 serving in the "Old Guard" 3rd Inf Regt, Washington D.C. When the Korean War started, Ronald volunteered for Korea seeing combat with the 24 Inf Division, after nine months, Ronald was selected from twenty four other service men from various divisions as one of the two to serve with the honor guard silent drill team from General Van Fleet, 8th Army HQ in Seoul. Upon being discharged from the regular army, he reenlisted in the Findlay Guard Unit (Company C) in 1954 from being activated for federal duty. He stayed with the Guard unit until his retirement in 1976 as a Platoon Sgt (E-7).
Visitation for Ronald will be on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 10:00 until the time of his Celebration of Life Service at 12:00 PM in the Hanneman Funeral Home, 201 Osborn Ave., Findlay, Ohio 45850, with Pastor Mike Noggle, officiating.
