Roosevelt Chandler Obituary

Roosevelt Chandler, Sr. CSM (RET), 78, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away Saturday, August 10, 2019.  He was born on May 19, 1941 to the late Willie and Lela (Alford) Chandler in Toomsuba, Mississippi.  He married Georgia (Miller) Chandler on April 12, 1962 and she survives him in Bowling Green, OH along with their four children. 

Roosevelt is survived by his daughters: Sheila (Thomas) Campbell of Bowling Green, Ohio; Sylvia D. Chandler of Bowling Green, Ohio; Heather (Emmett) Pennington of Massillon, Ohio; and a son Roosevelt (Carol) Chandler Jr. of Toledo, Ohio; sisters: Sellerstene Walker; Vernice Burr; W. Pearl Campbell; Evelyn (Wayne) Robinson; brothers: Vester L. Chandler; Robert L. (Marva) Chandler, Sr.; and Charles (Cathy) Chandler Sr.  Roosevelt was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Ester D Walker, Ethel Mae Davis, Allie Jean Chandler; brothers: EC Chandler, Rev. TJ Chandler, and Elmer Chandler. 

Roosevelt graduated from Middleton Attendance Center in 1961 and went on to serve our country in the United States Army.  He served for 30 years retiring 1991.  Command Sergeant Major Chandler was awarded the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Expert Infantry Badge.  After retiring from the Army, Roosevelt work as a mail carrier in Lucas County and Wood County.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.  Roosevelt was a member of Pheasants Forever, volunteered at the Bowling Green Food Pantry, and ushered at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Toledo.

Visitation for Roosevelt will be on Thursday, August 15, 2019 from 10:00 AM until the time of his funeral service at 12:00 PM in the Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home Remembrance Chapel, 1460 W. Wooster Street, Bowling Green, Ohio 43402.  Interment will immediately follow at the Wood County Memory Gardens.
