Vanciene C. Placie, 94, passed away on November 9, 2021, at 1:05 am at her residence. She was born on August 23, 1927, the daughter of Leo Berryhill and Gertrude (Ayers) Berryhill, and was raised by her mother and stepfather Lloyd Carr. Her parents and stepfather preceded her in death. On June 30, 1944, she was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Placie, and he passed away on June 11, 2002. With Bob’s job the couple live in many exciting places in the world: Puerto Rico, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Texas, California, and also traveled Europe, Asia, and Africa.
She adored her family, and her favorite thing to do was play with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren. She loved sitting on the floor with them, playing games and telling stories. Family was the most important thing in her life; and she truly cherished the time she spent with them. The children all shared many precious hours with her.
She was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Elida, and also attended Lima Community Church.
Vanciene is survived by her children, Theresa Jenkins of Cridersville, Robert “Bob” (Tammy) Placie of Lima, William “Bill” (Kathy) Placie of Lima, John “Jack” (Cherie) Placie of Indianapolis; and her sister Joanne Hemenway of Gomer. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob; her sisters, Wanda Kinkle Winters and Virginia Routson; a granddaughter, Liza Jenkins Sackinger; and her son-in-law, Rev. Dr. Michael Jenkins. Vanciene’s family will receive friends at the Mausoleum at Memorial Park Cemetery, 3000 Harding Highway, Lima Ohio 45804, on Monday, November 15, 2021, from 11am-12 noon, with a service scheduled for 12 noon. Rev. Doug Boquist from Lima Community Church will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made in Vanciene’s memory to: Putnam County Hospice, and Sunnydale House in care of WTLW-TV 44 at 1844 Baty Rd., Lima 45807.
