Vernon C. Greenwell Jr. "Skip," beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on January 28, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on July 14, 1947, in Harvey, IL. Skip was a steadfast presence in the lives of many, cherished for his warmth, creativity, and strong sense of family and faith.
He is survived by his loving partner of 13 years, Lottie Garner, his children, Rhonda (Eugene) Evans, Kevin (Kerry) Greenwell, Vernon Thomas, Tamara Greenwell, Dana Ruble (John Paul), Amanda Greenwell, Elliot (Shana) Whitaker and Matt Ruble; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and niece's and nephew's, who brought him much joy and happiness. Vernon also leaves behind his siblings, Jeff Radanovich, Marylin (Carl) Rule, and Tammy Elling.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Vernon Sr. and Betty Ann; his son Scott Vernon Spires-Greenwell; brother Jackie Greenwell; brother-in-law Lonnie Elling; sister-in-law Sherry Radanovich; and great-grandbaby "Peanut".
For over 60 years, Skip dedicated himself to his work as a mechanic. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from January 29, 1965, to January 28, 1971. A talented woodworker and accomplished musician, he was the lead singer for the band "Almost Out of Sight," captivating hearts with his remarkable voice and guitar prowess. He had an eclectic musical taste to include the blues, 50's/60's rock 'n' roll, country, and gospel music. A devoted Christian, he was baptized at Cornerstone Ministries in Florida and actively participated in the Bradner House of Prayer and Praise Chapel.
Skip was an avid motorcyclist and loved spending time riding and talking motorcycles with his good buddy Ron Dallas. He often spent time playing bingo, breaking bread, and playing guitar for his friends Dawn, Kathy, and Donnie. He would also want us to mention Norm Wheeler, his dear friend, pastor and fellow mechanic, who will officiate the Celebration of Life service.
The Celebration of Life services will be held on June 20, 2026 at 12:00 pm at Praise Chapel located at 157 Venango Street, Cygnet, OH 43413. Military Honors will be held at 1:00 pm outside of the church. A memorial ride will follow from 1:30 to 4:00 pm, concluding with a reception back at Praise Chapel from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.
