William Downing

William R. Downing, 89, of Findlay passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Birchaven Village, Findlay

William was born on October 27, 1933 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Roy and Wilma (Babbart) Downing. He married the love of his life Rebekah Shonkwiler on April 18, 1959 and she preceded him in death on September 12, 2020. William is survived by his loving children: Russell (Kimberly) Downing of Petersburg, Michigan and Annette (Keith) Williamson of Findlay; grandchildren: Eric Downing, Jordan (Laura) Downing, Emily Barnes and Madelynn (Jeremy) Whitman and great grandchildren: Cole,  Parker, Deacon, Holly and Maeve. He was also preceded in death by a son Daniel Downing, a grandson Nathan Williamson and three sisters: Dona Buccilla, Nancy Trott and Lois Dorsey.

William was a supervisor for Columbia Gas retiring after 32 years of service. William proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the Blissfield First United Methodist Church. William and Rebekah enjoyed traveling to Florida in the winter. He enjoyed making jewelry, doing crafts and playing a good round of bingo.  The most important part of William’s life was his family, especially his grandchildren who were his pride and joy.

Visitation will be on Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 10:00 until the of his Celebration Life Service at 11:00 AM in the Hanneman Funeral Home, 201 Osborn Ave, Findlay, Ohio 45840, where Military honors will be rendered by the Hancock County Memorial Squad.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be gifted in William’s honor to Flag City Honor Flight.
